Mug Shot
The scene: typical boring engineering meeting. I'm propped up at the table Friday, hoping the coffee takes hold fast. My boss is staring at my coffee mug, which bears a likeness of a crayon drawing that Zach did. The mug was a gift from him, something the school had made. It's a nice drawing, a nice house nestled in colorful hills, blue skies above.
All of a sudden, my boss interrupted the meeting and said "That's the kind of art I like, wanna sell it to me?"
We all laughed.
He wasn't kidding.
He then asked if this was the only copy of the mug that I had.
"Um, yes. My son gave it to me as a gift."
"Can you get another one?"
"No, I think I have the original drawing though", I said, even though I was pretty sure the mug company had kept it.
"Can you sell it to me, or make a print?"
My boss wants a print of my son's crayon drawing of a house and mountains on a mug? This is new to me. I've never seen or even heard of this happening before.
He kept eyeing the mug jealously, all through the meeting.
I now know where to look for it if it should disappear one day.
