We've been wanting to start "juicing" for a long time but never got around to getting a juicer. Since the one we want isn't cheap, we borrowed Brian's for the time being and we've been having a blast with it.
The main thing we're looking for is to stop buying juice for the kids and instead give them natural juice. So far so good, the granny smith apple juice I made was fantastic and after a little trepidation both girls now seem to really like it. I mixed in a little lemon juice and it's like apple lemonade.
I have always been a carrot juice freak, and the carrot-apple mixture is fantastic. I also like beets, and cucumber juice is far tastier than it seems like it would be.
We've been experimenting and so far everything I've made tastes great.
Juicing is not a replacement for eating whole fruits and veggies of course, I'm still making just as many of those. This is in addition to them because you really can't have too many fruits and veggies.
After bike riding and walking (aka carrying Brooke on my back) we came back home and I made apple/lemon juice and served it over ice and it was so good everyone wanted more.
I think we're going to hit the farmer's market more now, because the fresher the fruits & veggies the better.
I got a really good book on juicing that has 400 recipes to get us started. I'm pretty creative though and I'm reasonably sure I'll invent the ultimate juice at some point :)
I had noticed most juicers say crisp green apples work much better than red ones and I think they're right - I'd take "granny juice" over red apple juice any day. It's sharper and more acidic. And the color, electric spring green.
