No Rest For The Brooked

Brooke and sleep are like oil and water. And not in a cool, salad dressing-ish way either. She's been waking up and not wanting to go back to sleep. And her new twist has been to scream at the top of her lungs as if we were torturing her. Last night Heather was up with her for a couple of hours and Brooke would throw a major hissy fit when she was put in her bed. Then I took over and she was so wiped out by that time that she collapsed like a wet noodle. Only then did she sleep. It was a minor miracle that Zach, the lightest sleeper in the place, didn't wake up. I still can't figure out how that happened. Madison could sleep through a carpet bombing nowadays, so we were ok there.

Madison went through a phase like this, but with her it was possible to pat her back and get results. Not so with her little sister.

Here's a toast to sleep. Our long lost friend and current adversary.

Flour & Cheese

The Weiss' came over this Saturday and we made pizzas from scratch. We created all kinds of crazy good versions, and the company was excellent as usual!

Communing With Our Locked Up Friends

We took advantage of another sunny Saturday to hang with our furry, scaly, and feathery peeps at the Detroit Zoo. Although the fountains aren't wet and the trains aren't railed yet, we found plenty of wildlife willing to rap with us...check them out...

Tapas And The Power Of Juju

Our good friends and fellow wine & tapas lovers The Cunningham's sent us an amazing house warming gift basket filled with Spanish delicacies galore! Thanks you guys! We miss you! And we'll toast a Rioja to you when we eat that Serrano ham and those Marcona almonds!

The Frog

We had a frog (toad, maybe?) in our lives this past week, but alas, only for a brief time. He (she?) was at our house for a few hours before being given away as a wedding shower gift. But in those few hours we fell in love with our new friend. We were very sad to see him go. Now we just sit on the couch and stare through tear-clouded eyes at the place he sat, missing his big shiny peepers and bumpy skin and smiley personality.

Not sure what we'll do without him, but Heather has hinted at going out and catching us one, for keeps.

Parking

We rode our bikes to the park the other day, and the kids had a veritable blast. Zach let Maddie ride on his lap down the big-kid slides and she took to it like a fish to that wet stuff made of two hydrogens and one oxygen. She didn't want to leave. I think they both became closer friends because of it, and I'll take that!

Maddie has often since been heard saying "Park...Slide...Zachy..."
