The Other 99%

- Ninety-nine percent of the Earth's living space is in the oceans.

- More than 90% of this habitat exists in the deep sea known as the abyss, more than 2 miles deep.

And we've hardly explored it at all.

That is changing, rapidly, thanks to submarines like this Triton. The huge clear bathysphere is made of borosilicate glass, which actually gets stronger as outside pressure increases. This machine can go down to the very deepest ocean valley floors - even to the bottom of Challenger Deep in the Marianas Trench.

I can't wait to see the photographs and data they bring up.
