On The Acquisition of Methamphetamine Analogues

It's allergy season and Heather asked me to pick up some Sudafed on my way home for her. I haven't bought Sudafed in a few years and I know they keep it behind the counter now because Ephedrine is the key ingredient in the making of Crystal Meth. See that chemical structure above? Yeah, shhh...but if you knock off that Hydroxyl (OH) at the top you have yourself some methamphetamine and a whole heap of addiction, prostitution, and early tooth loss according to the documentaries.

Anyhow, due to this unfortunate recipe connection, you must now go through a procedure to buy Sudafed that rivals prison rape in it's invasive humiliation. Waiting in line at the pharmacy counter, the suspicious stare from the pharmacist, producing two forms of picture ID, signing a special statement (I didn't read it but I imagine it was a promise not to crack meth from my allergy meds), limiting the amount you can buy, and just to add insult to injury, they turned out to be out of the Sudafed brand altogether so for all my trouble I got the generic.

That meth is some unforgiving stuff. Sudafed on the other hand can be very helpful...I hope HB feels better in spite of the generic nature of her drug of choice : )
