This is what a Rolls Royce Trent 900 turbofan engine looks like after an intermediate-pressure turbine failure. This engine, which is made exclusively for the Airbus A380, is the size of a garage. Imagine your garage blowing apart in front of your eyes.
Looks like a turbine blade or two rocketed through the wing. Lucky for them it wasn't the fan disc because that's a much more critical failure that could have, if the Kevlar shield was to fail, taken the wing out. Still, this is bad enough, and must have been totally scary in person!
