"Gee, I think all I got is acetylsalicylic acid, generic. See, I can get six hundred tablets of that for the same price as three hundred of a name brand. That makes good financial sense..."
I left Zach off at the bus stop today, which I do occasionally when I need to be in his neighborhood to drop off the Sax or pick up clothes. As the car approached the bus stop I was surprised to see like 40 people waiting for the bus! I know there aren't that many kids on his block that go to his school, so that was interesting. The mystery was solved when we got closer: most of them were parents! Seems nobody leaves kids at bus stops anymore. Everyone is abduction-crazy.
Zach wanted me to wait with him so I consented and parked the car at the end of a long line of other parent's cars on the street. But the second we got up to the stop Z saw one of his friends and completely ignored me as he ran over to talk to him. I felt about as embarrassing and awkward as Rick Moranis' CPA character in Ghostbusters. He didn't want anything to do with me.
"Everybody, this is Ted and Annette Fleming. Ted has a small carpet cleaning business in receivership; Annette's drawing a salary from a deferred bonus from two years ago. They got fifteen thousand left on the house at eight percent."
I guess I'm truly a parent now.
