Edamame Baby?

It looks like our little Brookie is going to be a vegetarian.

She's had a terrible time with milk of any kind, even breast milk. It puts her into agony. We've got a test in the works to find out for sure, but the terrible time she's been having combined with the blood in her poopie, well, they are pretty indicative of a lactose allergy of some kind.

When we tried soy formula in a desperate moment, we were shocked to find that all her problems went away in a heartbeat and she became relaxed and happy.

So, we'll wait for the allergy testing to come back to be sure, but all anecdotal evidence suggests she's going to be a soy baby.

Nothng wrong with soy- it makes a yummy milk! Just be glad she's not allergic to that too! My neice is allergic to cows milk and soy!

Wow, that would be extra bad! What would you use then, beer?

Poor Brookie! Not to be all nerdy, but actually, the allergy is to the milk protein not lactose. Milk proteins are large and cause trouble for lots of babes. I know way more about it than I wish I did. Mads and I were dairy free for about two years. Mads still is.

I often wonder what would happen a million years ago when there was no soy formula. I guess she'd be suffering through it. Heather feels bad because she feels like she was poisoning Brookie with her own milk :(

A million years ago it didn't happen because humans ate differently and didn't have leaky guts. Tell HB not to feel bad, Brooke was still getting lots of good stuff from the breastmilk.

Heather has a very good diet though...lots of veggies and lean protein. I can't imagine her eating any better. A very historical diet.

We went through that with Jim. He was fine with breast milk but the first 8 ounces of formula came up faster than they went down. In his case, it was lactose intolerance. He could eat some cheese, yogurt, and of sourse soy milk!
