I started uploading all of my data to the online backup service Mozy a couple days ago. I have been shopping around for the best and cheapest service, and these guys are the only ones who have employed iJustine, so I chose them. :)
It's going to take a long while to upload my 1TB of files. But when I'm done, I'll have a complete backup set, 448-bit encrypted, in some server farm in Utah, far far away from my home.
About as safe as it could be.
And this backup is constantly updated so all new files go there too. I will sleep easier once this is complete, which at the current upload rate, could be many months from now.
You are not supposed to interrupt the initial backup if you can help it, so my computer (The Beast) will just stay on during this time. Good thing Macs don't need to be rebooted all the time like Windows machines do. I'm hoping for no power failures.
Right now my backup status is 0.8% complete. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm sitting in the office now and it's just a cranking away saving all that juicy info on the Beast! Must be up to .852% now =)
Your files should be safe in Utah, since no one ever wants to go there. I had the 448-bit encrypted white fish at the Big Fish once for lunch. It was delicious.
Do you get to name this one like the external hard drives?? Do you know what color it is?
what is it up to now??? i'm dying not knowing.
