Mt. Woodchip

Little hint: if you call the All-State Tree & Lawn Service and ask for wood chips, you'd better be damn fuckin' sure you want wood chips.

We got our "half load" today and it is nothing less than stunning. We now have a pungent pile of chips in our driveway bigger than a '59 Buick. I knew it was going to be memorable when the nice girl on the phone asked "is it ok if it's a little more than 6 yards, because sometimes the driver can't stop pouring".

Can't stop pouring?

And then the driver called today as he drove up to the house and asked me to confirm the delivery three times. He knew he had enough chips on-board for a small playground.

I saw it from way down the block. Cars were slowing down to take a look. A neighbor glared at me like I was crazy. Zach shot out of the car and climbed it like a great peak. He then looked back and claimed it. I wouldn't have been surprised if he had sunk a flag into it. He likes Mt. Woodchip.

We worked really hard to spread wood chips to the remotest corner of the yard. Wherever we could justify some coverage we loaded the place up. It hardly made a dent in the pile, which by this time had a life of it's own. Zach noticed that the pile was getting hot, which means it is starting to ferment already. Amazing since this morning the pile was a poplar tree. It's also steaming.

It smells fantastic though. I do so love that new wood chip smell. I hope the neighbors down the block and in the next subdivision do too.

Yes, so we got a whole tree. A poplar tree is on my driveway. It might as well be a redwood, I'll never get this all cleared up by the open house Sunday.

Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it.
