Lots And Lots Of Tulips

We drove to Holland this weekend to see the annual tulip festival. We saw reproductions of olden-times, pre-cable TV Dutch life, windmills and wooden shoes, candles and gouda cheese. And lots of cute Dutch girls that I pretended not to notice. There was a re-enactment of an old Dutch marketplace, where we saw what kinds of goods were traded in yesteryear (furs, food, guns...wisely, they left out the slaves).

And, of course, we saw tulips. Lots and lots of tulips. More than I knew even existed. All colors and shapes were represented, and we frolicked in them and smelled them and photographed them. It was almost like a religious pilgrimage, because tulips are one of Heather's very favorite kinds of flower.

Other highlights included a giant wooden shoe slide, Dutch dancing (one dancer lost his wooden shoe despite 9 layers of socks, and it flew about 40 feet into the river), and learning that Van Gogh was Dutch.

Just kidding about that last one. :)
