We used these special "canyoneering" boots in the Narrows. They were designed, not just for river hiking, but for this
exact river hike. The Zion Narrows is the world's largest and hiking that far in a river can be challenging. These boots have very "grippy" rubber soles, and while nothing is going to provide you with sure footing on algae-covered wet rocks, they did pretty good. I slipped a few times, once almost drowning my very expensive camera, but I think it would have been much worse without the Five Tens.
