Walkers

Me and HB have been watching The Walking Dead, an AMC TV series about, what else, a zombie apocalypse.

The first season is on Netflix for streaming. It’s pretty good, but very graphic. The protagonist is a police officer who is shot on duty and goes into the hospital. He lapses into a coma and when he wakes up, a couple weeks later, everyone is gone, and the hospital is trashed. He finds a barred room filled with groaning zombie people that has a sign on the door warning not to open it. He stumbles through town and soon sees these “walkers” everywhere.

The second episode, “Guts”, had our hearts pounding last night. If you are at all squeamish, don’t watch this, but if you aren’t it’s been hailed as one of the best shows on TV. Examples of the gore: a guy hacking up a zombie body so he can rub the guts on himself to “blend in” with the zombies on the streets. He wears the intestines like a gruesome necklace. This scene is complete with cracking sounds as the axe hits bone, and lots of gore flying in every direction. Much internal anatomy shown externally. And they don’t NOT show anything, if you get my drift.

But this is not just gore for gore’s sake, it really is a thrilling show.
