I posted recently about the new Star Wars films on Blu-ray, coming soon, and I mentioned the fact that Mr. Lucas loves to tinker with them.
Sure enough, there are new changes to the films and many fans are in an uproar. I'll reserve judgment until I see them, a couple of them sound like good ideas, the digital Yoda in Phantom Menace for instance - the muppet they used for that movie was creepy as hell.
Here are the changes noted so far by reviewers with advanced test copies of the films:
- The muppet Yoda in Episode I: Phantom Menace has been replaced with a CGI version. See the photo at top. The new CGI Yoda is on the right. The creepy-as-hell original Yoda is on the left. I think that was a good idea. The muppet Yodas in episodes IV, V, and VI have been retained. Episodes II and III used digital Yodas originally so they weren't changed either.
- When Darth Vader saves Luke from the Emperor's lightning attack, he now screams "Noooooooo!". In the original film he was silent. I think I prefer silent.
- Obi-Wan's dragon call in A New Hope has been altered. Online reaction says it was for the worse. I will probably agree.
- The shooting between Greedo and Han in A New Hope has been slightly sped up. Lucas did not change the scene so Han shoots first as he did originally. Meh.
- Luke's light saber in the Millennium Falcon is blue and white now instead of the pale green color it had in the DVD versions. This was just fixing a mistake, so cool.
- The Ewoks now blink. Those are really big eyes to blink. That's gonna show.
I'm sure there are more changes stuffed in there. I am equally sure the rapid Star Wars fan base will find them all, if they have to go through all six films frame by frame.
