TNG Blu

One of my favorite shows of all-time, Star Trek: The Next Generation, is being prepped for HD Blu-ray in 2012, and they’re doing it the right way:

 

“All 178 episodes will get the treatment, converted to 1080p with 7.1 DTS Master Audio sound. This is being done by returning to the original film negatives and then recreating the special effects instead of converting them from videotape.”

 

I’m sure it’s going to be expensive but I’d love to see what they look like. Recreating the effects was necessary due to the low-resolution of the effects as done for TV. Fortunately the series was shot on film, so the negs are high resolution. It was just the effects that needed updating and although that must be a huge amount of work, I’ll bet it will look fantastic, like a new show.
