I took the little girls to the zoo Wednesday - it was the last day this season for the zoo's summer hours - they stayed open to 8pm. What a beautiful evening it was!
It was Brooke's turn to pick out the animals we'd see. The only one she really wanted to see was:
"The dead hippo"
So we went to the hippo paddock that was the home of Jock. The water was perfectly still and a lone bird stood there in mourning (see pic above). The girls both got very sad. I did too. Jock and I grew up together, sort of. He was born in 1971 and I must have seen him a hundred times at the zoo. He never came to our wine tastings though - we were just casual friends.
Brookie rode in my Fusion for the first time yesterday when I picked the girls up from school and she thought that was special.
Madison could not figure out why I couldn't just play any song I wanted on the car radio. She was genuinely confused. I no longer have an iPod in my car because it doesn't work on the Sync system like it did on the Focus. So we listened to the 80's channel on Sirius and both girls almost immediately got new favorite songs:
Maddie: Crazy on You by Heart - "I like that woman's voice!"
Brooke: Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot - "Baby Got Fat?"
When we got home Maddie demanded that I play that crazy lady song again and I did and she was happy.
I made the girls some fresh apple juice with our new juicer and it was so good and so was Wednesday.

Somehow you made a good day out of a sad zoo experience. Nice dad.
