8/1/81

Thirty Years ago today a stylized astronaut planted the MTV flag on the moon and the "MTV Generation" was born. I remember watching MTV in my basement bedroom during the first couple of years. The first video ever played on MTV was The Buggles' Video Killed the Radio Star.

My favorite early-era videos were the Greg Kihn Band's Jeopardy, Def Leppard's Photograph, and Golden Earring's Twilight Zone.

It was all downhill from there. MTV doesn't really play music anymore, as all the early VJ's lamented this morning on the Sirius 80's channel. The first five VJs were Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter, Martha Quinn, and the late J.J. Jackson.
