You say drywall, I say cardboard

If you want to read a sad story about how technology, improperly used, can destroy something, read about what the tomato industry has done to our favorite fruit-disguised-as-vegetable. There are solid reasons why supermarket tomatoes look so good but taste like cardboard.

Do you remember the taste of real tomatoes? I mean, even the hybridized tomatoes of our childhood, grown at home, were compromised compared to the natural "heirloom" varieties of old. But compared to the store-bought kind they were like edible heaven.

I remember my mother bringing in huge, red, vine ripe tomatoes from dad's garden. She sliced them and sprinkled salt on them and we all ate them in seconds. They were so good. So good.
