Gale Crater

After an exhaustive process of elimination, NASA has chosen the landing site for the next Mars rover, Curiosity. It's called Gale Crater and was deemed to be the best site to search for evidence of life, current or ancient, on Mars.

The MSL Curiosity will launch around Thanksgiving this year and arrive at the red planet in the late spring of 2012.
