Mercury, up close and personal

"Since becoming the first spacecraft ever to orbit Mercury on March 17, Messenger (MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging) has sent back more than 20,000 high-resolution images, enough to include Mercury in Google Earth."

Messenger has now been in orbit around the first planet for one Mercury Year (88 Earth days). Look at the second photo to see the stunning increase in detail the new maps have over the old "flyby" shots. It's a whole new world.

In Google Earth? Have you mapped a trip there yet?
