Fallout

The Japanese government has just raised the nuclear alert level of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant to "5". In case you are not so hip as to what "Accident with wider consequences" means in English, note that it is more commonly known by another name: Meltdown. The reactor core has been breached and radiation is leaking out into the real world.

It's a difficult situation, and one impossible to fully prepare for. Our need for lots of electricity has consequences. I am a big proponent of nuclear energy when it's done right, and it certainly is done right in Japan. There are just some catastrophes that cannot be fully avoided and then we have to pay the piper.
