We get a pretty good wireless signal throughout most of the house, but we have a few dead spots that seem to be related to metal HVAC ducts in the walls. Heather's side of the bed, for instance, has a signal that's a full 6 dB lower than my side. It's really funny watching her hold her iPad over my head as she struggles to watch The Bachelor.
And Z's bedroom is pretty bad too. It's basically because our WiFi router is in my office on the ground floor and up against a wall, and the low-signal areas are all upstairs on the far end of the house. They say WiFi is good for 2-3 walls depending on your building materials. I've tried moving the router around but we always get holes somewhere. Since we stream everything we watch we need to have the signal to the living room rock solid which we do right now.
So I ordered another one of these babies which will allow me to extend the network upstairs solidly. If all goes well I'll be able to physically connect this new one to the original one downstairs with Cat5e which will be a huge challenge logistically but will provide a much better signal than linking them wirelessly.
Why did I tell you this?
I dunno.
