Skimmed

So, I got a call from the ever-vigilant Fraud Detection Unit at my credit card company. Seems someone has skimmed my card and made a duplicate, which is now traveling around Miami having much more fun than the original card which is stuck in my wallet in the Midwest. And spending much more money.

Since this is a debit card, all the money they spent (~$1000) before the card was shut down has been removed from our account and we're going to have to go through "proceedings" to get it back.

Since skimming requires a special device and my card only leaves my sight at restaurants, I've narrowed it down to two probable places: Bahama Breeze and that romantic pizza place we went on that date. I'm thinking it was the former because our waiter was really creepy and mentioned he was going away for a while to get surgery.

Thank goodness for automatic fraud-detection software. The bank's computer system shut my card down as soon as it recognized the impossible situation of two "card-present" transactions in two different states in close time proximity.
