Bricks from bricks

As you can see in the photos I posted the other day, our little family went to the grand opening of the LEGO store in Somerset North, only a couple of miles from our house.

The bright cavernous main lobby of the mall was consumed with throngs of people and lots and lots of colorful bricks. LEGO had multiple stations set up where people could build bricks (lower case b) into Bricks (upper case B) that went right into the giant Buzz Lightyear they are building to display in the store. Since the Buzz is scaled up, they build him from Bricks made from bricks to keep the pixilated look of the smaller models. It's these Bricks that everyone helped to build.

Once assembled our Bricks were given to one of the "Master Model Builders" (read: summer interns at LEGO, quite possibly Zach's dream job) and they went into the Buzz so we helped build Buzz in a very real way, THE Buzz, who will be on display in the store.

Ahh, the store. The actual LEGO store. On the third floor. Alas, the line waiting to get in the store wrapped all the way around the third floor mezzanine. We never even got close to getting in. So we went to the candy store instead and got some sweet condolences.

We're going to try again l later this week. We can hear the bricks calling...
