fossil skeleton, not just a reproduction. It's mounted there for the
next several months, on tour. These were bad puppies, and we're going to
go meet this one!
The particular Giganotosaurus (jig-ah-NOTE-oh-SORE-us) specimen they
have on display was found in 1993 by a "garage mechanic riding a dune
buggy through Patagonia's Badlands", if you can believe that. Sounds
like quite a vacation.
The name means "Giant reptile of the south" and this specimen measures
about 45 feet long, 5 feet longer than the largest T. Rex on record. In
life, it weighed 13 tons and could run more than 30 MPH. Badass. The
Giganotosaurus lived about 97 million years ago during the late
Cretaceous period. Not a thing I'd like to meet alive, but as this one
is safely fossilized, why not? I'll bring the ultra-wide lens.

I'm assuming Zach and Jack are going!
I've been contemplating a trip to MI soon. This might just seal the deal. Madeline would LOVE to see a Giganotosaurus.
