The technology exists today to run a paperless business and that's what I am transitioning to. Oh, I still need some paper, but only at the interface points between my business and the luddite companies I deal with that still ship dead trees around.
So everything paper I take in gets scanned and shredded. The digital image of it goes up to Evernote and "keyworded" and is accessible and searchable (thanks to some pretty powerful OCR cloud-processing by Evernote's servers). And I mean everything...copies of checks and bills and receipts and price lists and ads and everything else my paper-loving contacts give me.
And when I need to provide someone else with a paper copy of something (don't get me started on the persistence of fax machines...can you think of a single legitimate use for a fax machine in today's world of email and teleconferencing? I can't) I just print it from Evernote.
And now I can use that file drawer in my office to hold more cool gadgets... :)
