Here are a couple of shots that really show the extent of the devastation at Packard. There aren't many places in the plant that have views like this, so shots like these are pretty rare. The second picture here shows the area also detailed in
this post.

Looking north from the southernmost building. This plant is almost a mile long. The entire section you see directly below was occupied by huge steel sheds up until last year. Scrappers have removed them all, and very quickly. |

The missing building. There was a building here. Not a shed, but a real brick and concrete and steel building. It has been carted off by scrappers who have sold all of it's materials. The only parts they left are the outside walls. |
The red boxes in this sat view are the areas that were removed. The green box is the newly-collapsed roof section that now houses the Garden of the Gods.

The left hand red box is the field of devastation shown in the top photograph above. The right hand red box is shown in the second picture above. The green box is the collapsed roof. You can see in this satellite photo taken in 2007 that most of these structures were intact at that time, and the collapsed section was much smaller. |
