The Day A Monster Came Calling
The terrible destructive power of nature is never very far away. We don't like to think about it, but our lives can be taken from us in a heartbeat by the forces of the planet we live on. Yesterday Haiti was hit by the region's worst earthquake in the last 200 years, a 7.0 magnitude monster centered less than 10 miles off the coast of Port-au-Prince at 18.451°N, 72.445°W. This quake was followed by 12 aftershocks of greater than 5.0 magnitude.
The devastation is mind numbing. Initial reports are more than 100,000 dead, with a nearly complete collapse of infrastructure and medical aid. This is one very bad day in Haiti as they begin the long and terrible task of digging out the dead and trying to locate the missing.
I really feel for the people of Haiti. This is the poorest country in our hemisphere, there is no way they will get out of this without a great amount of help from all over the world.
I can't even imagine having to deal with something like that.

It's just not "fair" that Haiti should receive this destruction. Not that any country should but least of all Haiti. Very, very sad!
