If I learn anything this coming year, I want to learn how to properly use the semicolon. I love them. They look cool. They're different. Cocky. Daring. There are so many of them in "Moby Dick" that I know there was a time they were used more often than they are today. But their correct modern use is an enigma that I've never solved.
Of course, I've never tried. That's what this coming year is for.

Ahhh...the semi-colon; I was never a heavy user until 2007; I handed in a paper in my first term of (back to) school; the professor said, "Why don't you use a semi-colon here instead?"; I did.
I have been hooked ever since. Seriously; they are wonderful.
I love the semi-colon. Read "Eats, Shoots and Leaves." I just re-read it. Besides being hilarious (to those of us to whom jokes about grammar and punctuation are hilarious), it will teach you the proper use of the semi-colon.
