Everyone has been asking me how the ear piercing event went last night. Well...it was like rebuilding the transmission in your only car, difficult, dirty work, and once you're halfway done, you have to finish.
We had a few beers at Lotus before the event, just to soften the adults up. Then we went to the mall where we had hoped to get the deed done on both ears at once. Things didn't turn out that way though.
Everything went ok as we walked past all the dress shops on the way to Claire's.
But once Maddie caught sight of the needle gun, she became scared. Even the pen used to mark the spots on her ears scared her.
Things started to drag on with Madison hiding her head whenever the piercer came near her. We would have just given up, but every time we asked Madds if she really wanted to go through with this, she always said yes. She just lost her nerve when it came time to do it.
So I gave Brooke to Zach...
...and held Maddie's head as the first ear was done. Well, apparently it hurt her and she wanted nothing to do with finishing up the other ear. She wished to remain pirate-like.
This went on until we had quite a crowd assembled in both the store and the mall, watching and for all we know taking bets on whether or not this would happen.
At the end of my patience I grabbed Maddie's head and held it as she screamed bloody murder and moments later it was all done.
Believe me, it hurt us grownups more than it hurt her.
A quick trip to the mall play area to dry up the tears and home we went. By the time we reached the parking lot she was all smiles.

The teary photo in the mirror is heart wrenching! It's a good thing you included the happy ending! Congrats on the girls' rite of passage, Maddie. Even girlie girls have to be tough! Happy Birthday! I love you!!
sounds like when we give Jack an enima
Awe!! Glad she survived. When I got mine pierced, the gun got stuck in the closed position. Let me tell you, that hurt!
