Beating Them Up

My photographer friends and I joke incessantly about the irony of buying very expensive cameras and even more expensive lenses capable of creating lush pictures loaded with with amazing detail, only to beat them up in Photoshop until they look like they came from a $20 Holga.

And beat them up I do. I add grain and noise, change colors, rip edges, crush shadows, blow highlights, blur, burn, and generally wreak havoc on the poor things, all in the name of obtaining an "authentic", or "vintage" look. You've seen many of them on here.

Ironic...certainly...but SO fun!

I never thought of it that way. Well, I suppose it's easier than going back in time to get a vintage look.

But don't knock what you can do with a tooth.
