The top graphic here shows the size of a typical imaging sensor in a compact camera, in green, set inside a 35mm film frame.
The second graphic shows an APS-C size sensor in a typical digital SLR, in blue.
The Canon 5D Mk II, my next camera, has a full-frame sensor, which means the sensor is exactly the size of the 35mm film frame. Big. Spacious even. And it's stuffed with 21 million pixels.
It's not the only factor that determines picture quality, but it's an important one.
Bigger, in camera sensors as in most everything else in life, is better.
Oh, and I'll need several of these...

Maybe not fries, but a few extra hard drives would be appreciated.
