The Princess And The Princess Eater
Halloween in our new neighborhood bested all expectations by a big monsterly amount. Although we only got a few dozen T or T'ters (we live on a blocked street), right around the corner there was a mammoth Halloween candyfest like nothing I've ever seen. Every house was decorated and lit up, many with coincident Halloween parties in progress.
And one house was like nothing I've seen before. Creepy cobwebs and snakes everywhere. A dozen or so fake bodies, some swinging from branches, some sitting around on benches, several being controlled by people hiding in bushes. A huge, ten foot tall monster, with two people inside it scaring the bejeezus out of everyone who walked by. There were magic tricks, dissecting tables, and professional-quality smoke and lighting.
Not since the heady days of the 1970's have I seen so many people out begging candy and having such a great time. I'm sure the extra-mild weather helped too. The kids had fun, and so did I. After Maddie wore out we returned her to Heather at home and Zach and I went back for more. We cleared the neighborhood of candy, covering the blocks with the efficiency of UPS.
Halloween is back.

Your description could have been of my neighborhood in past years. Mike, the guy that lived across the street, had the best display I'd every seen; http://www.flickr.com/photos/22881419@N07/sets/72157608560960710/ .
Mike passed away this year and although we had truck loads of kids come through the neighborhood, it just wasn't the same.
