Our new street was never previously open all the way through. There was a break in it because there were no houses, only a wooded area.
When our builder bought the land to clear and build on (I know, more concrete, less green), he was told by the city that he needed to finish the road so it went through.
So he finished the road, at great expense.
It wasn't long before the residents, used to their quiet little dead-end, started complaining about fast traffic going down the street.
This eventually led to a solidarity event at the town hall, with the residents of the block wearing yellow ribbons and demanding, 200 strong, that the street be closed again.
Their demands were met, the street is now permanently closed to through traffic with a nice big barricade. The builder was justifiably upset by this, since his beautiful and expensive road connection was now useless.
And just to add insult to injury, during the fateful city council meeting that the road-closing decision was made, the residents tried to pin a yellow ribbon on him!

That's a sad story. But at least you get to live on a quiet, dead-end street.
