Horses, Pools, And Beer Guys
We stayed at the Cedarville Inn the night of the Kayaking trip. Carol originally planned on taking the kids to a movie in Cedarville. That is, until I called the hotel to ask if there was a theater in the city. The woman who answered the phone said:
"Uhhhhhh.....Not really."
I was told that Sault Ste. Marie had all that stuff, only 45 minutes away.
So we got to experience a small up-north town. True, there were no theaters or fancy stores or malls or Internet. But it was quiet, the people were nice, and the hotel had a pool in which we had more fun than a school of porpoises.
And there were horses. Right outside our hotel. A mare and colt, friendly and curious. Zach fed the colt some fresh greens and I think he really enjoyed meeting and petting the cute, relatively little thing.
We ate at the restaurant recommended by the girl working the hotel desk. Only a half block away, Ang-Gio's (or as we joked, Angina's) had pretty good food, but their beer pricing policy could have used more clarification. When we asked the cashier why we were charged Imported beer prices for domestic Blue Moon and Bell's beers, she looked a little irritated and mumbled something like:
"Well, that's just what the beer guy brings us!"
This was an intellectually unsatisfying answer for us so she fumbled around and fumed and stammered and finally came up with:
"Oh. Those are local beers, but not domestic."
Ok, call me stupid and put me in a sack. We paid for our imported local beers and left.

I always say, "A beer is a beer."
But give me a Harp's and I'm in Heaven (or Ireland).
