What's Next In Context

Sometimes the contextual ads that come along with news articles are unintentionally surreal. I'm used to being confronted with an ad for music when reading an article about iPods. But sometimes the logic that chooses what ads to show you based on keywords in your article gets over-excited and serves you up something really odd.

I was reading a horrifying article about a Kyoto zookeeper who was mauled to death by a tiger at the zoo. Seems he forgot to lock a gate and the tiger entered the cage as he cleaned it. The tiger leapt on the poor guy and sunk it's big sharp teeth into his neck and face. He was discovered shortly afterwards, badly mauled and in cardiac arrest.

Really terrible situation. And then I glanced off to the right and saw the advertisement that was chosen as most appropriate based on select keywords in the text:

It was for a teeth-whitening product.
