And Then There Was One

My uncle Harold (my father's brother) died this past weekend. He's pictured here, fifth from left in back row. I didn't get to visit he and his family much, they lived in Wisconsin, but I liked him.

I remember that he collected cartoon characters. He would duplicate them by hand and fill large books with the characters that interested him. He even kept a few that I had drawn, and that made me feel honored. He was quiet and very mild mannered, and a really nice guy.

There were nine children in my dad's family, and now only one remains: my aunt Sister Helen. She's not my aunt AND sister, she's a nun, in the Maryknoll order. My sister Mary (not a nun) and I want to go visit her sometime soon in New York. I think if you live to be the last of nine, you at least deserve to be visited.

Goodbye Uncle Harold, among other things, cartoonist extraordinaire.

Sorry to hear about your uncle. It's a happy thing to have a memory of a man who loved cartoon characters!

Thanks for clarifying the aunt/sister thing. Sister is sister, nun is sister, but sister is not nun. There's a mathematical law in there somewhere.

I was just pondering the irony of Aunt Sister Helen being the only Wild left of her sibs but being the only missing from this photo.
